What to Expect

The Counselling Process

First Session

I will ask some questions to try and better understand your support needs. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions and see if you feel comfortable with me. If we decide to continue working together, we will agree on the frequency, time, location and date for future sessions.

My Approach

I work collaboratively with you, trusting deeply that you are the best expert on yourself.

I believe that we all have within us the ability to find our own answers and reach our full potential when we feel fully accepted, respected, and understood by someone who listens, reassures, and is real. It is my privilege to facilitate that for you.

I am open to working with you on any issue that feels important to you, and we’ll do it in a way that is helpful and supportive to you.

We will explore your feelings, thoughts, and reactions, how they are contributing to your current difficulties, and the impact the past may have on your experience. We will also look at how you relate to others as these are important aspects of who you are and where you are today.

Your journey and the response to the process will be unique to you. At times it will be hard and challenging but we will get through it together, and the therapeutic effect of our conversations will help you to feel and achieve what you need in counselling.

My Expertise

My areas of experience include: issues relating to childhood, traumatic life events, attachment and relationship difficulties, work related stress, losses and relationship breakdowns, cultural adjustment, major life changes, existential crisis and anxiety and depression, counselling for expats.

* This is not an exhaustive list of the difficulties I am able to work with

Therapies Offered

If you are interested in the theories that inform our work, I have an Integrative Approach. This means that I blend different theories together to suit your individual needs.

For example, what we talk about during sessions and the general direction of therapy will be led by you, from Person-Centred Approaches. We will work collaboratively, and my exploration of what and how you think comes from Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy. I Understand the way that you relate to people and it’s origins in your history from Psychodynamic Approaches. The context of your difficulties and what they mean to you in the present moment are understood through the lens of Gestalt Theory.

These are just some examples of the ways in which I work, the exact blend will be unique to you and is based on what you would like from our sessions. If you would like to read more about the approaches offered, check out the BACP or Psychology Today. It is not important for you to have any knowledge or understanding of the theoretical aspects, but more importantly, the relationship between us.
